Zucchini Car Races delight Farmers’ Market shoppers

On your mark, get set, there go the zucchinis! On July 6, the Diablo Valley Farmers’ Market was buzzing with excitement as kids and adults alike decorated zucchini cars and watched them race down the ramp.

Many heats were needed to accommodate the 58 racers, each winner advancing to the next heat, until finally a winner was crowned. This year’s winner was Even, and his car was named Sticky Gecko. Even walked away with a nice $200 cash reward. The judges also awarded several “Most Creative Car” awards with $50 cash: Kaylee with her Mr. Ducky Mobile, Aiden who created American-mobile, and Sabin for her Garden on a Roll.

Prior to the races starting, Cherise Khaund, Field Representative for State Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, presented Warren Cox, manager of the Diablo Valley Farmers’ Market, with a Certificate of Recognition for being named #1 Favorite Farmers’ Market in the State of California by the American Farmland Trust.
